ice is absolutely fucking evil but like … if y’all could fucking stop comparing them to the gestapo and auschwitz that’d be great. not because they aren’t like them, but because y’all need to sit back and think about how it might feel to jewish people, most of who suffer intergenerational trauma, seeing their feeds and dashes filled with the fucking yellow star, photos of ghettos, photos of concentration camps, the words “gestapo” and “holocaust” and “auschwitz” everywhere we turn just for shock value bc apparently goyim have difficulty caring about anything unless it’s compared to our genocide (ironic since a lot of y’all then go on to say we deserved it or are milking it for sympathy points but that’s neither here nor there)
like, you can figure out another way to say something is horrible without equating it to the holocaust. i guarantee you it’s possible and on behalf of the rest of my people i am asking y’all to please fucking do so lol
I understand why people want to liken things happening in American to the most well-known fascist disaster of the 20th Century, but JFC y’all it’s fucking triggering to Jewish and Romani people.
to be completely honest it’s also incredibly telling + disheartening that americans have no concept of this having happened to latinos/latine immigrants (and non-latino immigrants) before, and thus can’t compare it to the ongoing history of abuses against immigrants in the US.
people could be talking about the “Gre-ser Act” or Operation W-tback, the bracero program, forced mexican repatriation…. but they don’t. there’s never any implication that they have any idea of the history there of the border, and so they reach for the holocaust as if it’s a catch-all analogy. hell, for gd’s sake, mention american internment camps, because at least that speaks to american policy and the american treatment of non-white people under various administrations.
objectively the greatest thing about wade wilson as a character is that he’s all “i’m not a hero nope not even a little” but then the second a child is in danger he just cracks his knuckles and turns toward the villain like “well fuck i gUESS I AM NOW”
and i’m just…. really glad that carried over into the movies tbh
82 out of 134 paintings were fake and at least some of the sellers may be part of a large forgery ring.
You know, I started out thinking “that is some dedication to the tourist trade,” like my mind immediately went to the idea that the entire town was in on it, compiling a collection that was impressive enough to draw people in. I kind of prefer my version to just “Forgers knew where to sell this shit.” 😀
But I think this is a really good illustration of how art forgery is not a victimless crime – more than half of the catalog of this artist was fake, which not only impacted the town and the people who donated to help buy these forgeries, but the scholarship surrounding the artist.
Oh my God I want a movie where an entire town conspires to expand the scholarship around an obscure artist just to bring in tourism
Well, damn, now I do too. Or even better, just invent one.
“Well, Mick’s handy with a paintbrush, he can do the paintings, and Beverly just finished her degree in Art History so she can do up the scholarship, and Shady Ralph can probably forge some documents for us.”
“We don’t need to give the fake artist a fake driver’s license.”
“Hey! I don’t JUST do fake driver’s licenses.”
“Ralph – “
“I do fake green cards too!”
“….so he’s an immigrant, okay, that’s a good start.”
“What can I do?”
“Bobby, you own a hamburger joint. I don’t think you have much to contribute.”
“Okay, but…but what if our artist was discovered from paintings that have been hanging in the hamburger joint?”
“I feel like a plan is coming together, fellas.”
my first thought on reading the headline was GODDAMMIT NEAL and i blame you.
