give me wide-eyed ensigns eagerly drinking in tales of great creatures of the void, space whales and other more malevolent leviathans, dismissed as tall tales by more cynical cadets who only trust the sense of their own eyes.
give me whispered accounts of ghost vessels, lost long ago in great battles across the universe, populated by a literal skeleton crew.
give me a space bermuda triangle.

I want more people to learn about a very endangered species of seal, which only live in a single lake-system and oddly enough, not many people know about. Where does this unknown, speckled beauty live in? Fucking Finland. Yes, in an in-land lake-system, in FINLAND. Yes. The Saimaa Ringed Seal lives in the lake-system of Saimaa and Saimaa only. They got stuck there after one of the ice-ages and have decided to stay. Well a seal can’t really migrate so hey.
But why, you ask, do I bring you this quite normal looking seal? Its endangered as hell. Like, No joke. Finnish Government has for YEARS been trying to protect them and for some reason nobody has thought of telling other people about this species. At all. Its like a weird finnish in-joke. Only finns know. Nobody is told about the seals. Why? Because fuck Finland.
Lets look at the facts: “The Saimaa ringed seal (Finnish: Saimaannorppa) is a subspecies of ringed seal (Pusa hispida). They are among the most endangered seals in the world, having a total population of only about 380 individuals.[2] The only existing population of these seals is found in Lake Saimaa, Finland (hence the name). The population is descended from ringed seals that were separated from the rest when the land rose after the last ice age. Hey, wanna see a LIVE FEED OF RINGED SEAL? Yeah, you heard it, there’s a live feed during the summer. They rig up a camera on the seal’s favourite sunbathing rock and then feed it live.
This year they expanded the live feeds to include Flying Squirrel, Forest Raindeer, Saimaa Seal, and the Osprey. It’s not a all-year-around feed (right now the Squirrel and the Raindeer are online, Seal kicks up in May, and the Osprey in July).

somedays i’m ok and can do my stuff and sometimes see a point in but lately most days i still do my stuff and don’t know why i bother because i have a hard time seeing a future worth sticking around for because i’m tired. i’m so fucking tired of reading the news and seeing all this awful shit happening and there’s not a single fucking thing i can do about it because i live in the middle of fuckin nowhere and i have no money to donate to the people who can do something about it and i try to stay away from it because it does this to me but then i feel gulty about not staying informed but staying informed makes me feel like this and then there’s work and school and trying to figure out how to pay all my loans back and if i’m ever going to be able to retire or even get a job that i don’t hate and my family keeps forgetting i exist and my friends are too far away and have their own shit going on and i don’t want to bother her with this and i just don’t wanna be a person anymore
