Pornhub steals sex-workers’ labour, monetizes it, and gives them nothing back.  It drives down the price of their work, and forces them to make more dangerous choices to get the same compensation.

Maybe don’t hand fandom over to them.

Since people in the notes were asking what this was about, this is what I understood it to be referring to:

Don’t Let Them Trick You – MindGeek, PornHub, and YouPorn are Bad News

One of the biggest issues with MindGeek companies is that they do not
regulate stolen content. This means users can upload clips they got
from any performer without that performer benefitting. There are even allegations that they cheat the system:

For example, one shady scenario involves a company that
knowingly and willingly submits infringing content to its tube site — or
pays others to do it for them — under the guise of “user” uploads. Then
in an effort to seemingly comply with the DMCA, removes clips on
request — only to have the compliance department send the removed
material to the upload department, where this cynically cyclical process
is endlessly repeated.

The monopoly MindGeek holds on streaming sites, in addition to the
big production names they own or are involved with, make it very
difficult for performers to feel like they can speak up. Adult actress
Tasha Reign said,
“It’s like we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place in a way,
because if I want to shoot content then I kinda have to shoot for
[Mindgeek] because that’s the company that books me because they
own…almost…everything.” The fear of being blacklisted by a company that owns nearly 100 sites is terrifying.

Siri, the owner of Abby Winters, said,
“From personal experience, I know how hard it is to get my copyrighted
content removed from tube sites – even the purportedly “legit” ones that
porn magnate MindGeek owns still force copyright holders to jump
through hoops to get our content removed from tube sites.” She goes on
to explain that, like Walmart, MindGeek purposely has built a monopoly
by providing ‘free’ content. Hell, they even profit more off pirated
content than the stuff they produce and own.

So maybe let’s not hand fandom over to a shady as hell, ethically dubious, massive-monopoly owned company that screws over sex-workers, eh?

What really kills me is Fai didn’t even have the slightest idea of just how much Kurogane was in love with him through a good half of the series.

When they meet, Fai doesn’t know anything about Kurogane and the reader’s pretty much in the same boat, HOWEVER, Fai is afraid to get close to him so he doesn’t bother learning to understand him and what he does. This is when we can really notice, where Fai is painfully oblivious.

Everyone loves bringing up that despite Kurogane’s rebellious and disobedient nature, he still does whatever Fai asks of him. What we don’t think about is Fai has literally no idea he’s getting special treatment. He most likely assumes that Kurogane is always grumbling and grouching but still does what’s asked of him.

Can you really picture pre series Kurogane putting up with half the amount of teasing Fai does, if it had been anyone else? I can’t. And the way Kurogane gruffly tries to get him to change. Telling him that people so willing to throw away their lives are the people he hated the most. We know he didn’t mean it as “I hate you,” but that’s how Fai took it, because Fai doesn’t know about how Kurogane expresses himself.

And that’s another killer: the last thing he’d expect from Kurogane is love. The thought must’ve never crossed his mind, even when Kurogane was being more straightforward, because Fai thought he hated him! Fai was under the impression, definitely weighed down by his own self hate, that Kurogane thought of him as absolute scum. In the bar when he opens up about himself and says “but I guess you must just hate me more now.” Kurogane was trying to help him because he cares, but Fai thought-blinded by how little he knew his partner and his own self loathing-he was just making it clear that he didn’t like people like Fai.

And Fai doesn’t want Kurogane to hate him, it’s just what makes sense to him. It’s all he knows. He sees the way Kurogane acts and thinks to himself, ‘it would’ve been nice if we could’ve been friends instead,’ not realizing that Kurogane would already die for him.

And even when Kurogane does sacrifice for him, he still just doesn’t get it. He thinks he’s manipulated this poor man into his servitude. He thinks his bad luck has spread even to those who despised him. He thinks every negative thought he can and never once does he even consider that Kurogane did it because he wanted to. Because he loved him.

Fai just had no idea how completely enamored Kurogane was with him and it breaks my heart so much

The national conversation about trans identity and community tends to focus on the newest crop of trans youth. But why don’t we hear about older trans and gender-nonconforming individuals who manage to overcome the at times seemingly impossible odds and survive — and thrive — in America?

Photographer Jess Dugan’s latest project To Survive on This Shore aims to bring attention to those voices. For over five years, Dugan and social worker Vanessa Fabbre have traveled across the United States photographing and interviewing older trans and gender-nonconforming individuals to ensure their stories, largely untold, are finally shared.  See more here (x)

Dear people planning to move to pillowfort:

As someone not involved in the development of pillowfort but am a web developer, I think you should lower your expectations, but not for the reason you think.

Pillowfort is a baby. A newborn. A smol bab. If you were here during the early days of Tumblr, think of that.

Pillowfort simply cannot be the immediate solution to your woes. It needs to be nurtured and cared for to become a mature and happy adult.

If you want Pillowfort to work, they’ll need feedback, advice, bug reports, etc. This is a chance to make Pillowfort the Ao3 of Fanfiction.net. It’s not gonna happen overnight, you need to give it time and love and it’ll get there.

If you don’t want to pay money to get into the beta, that’s ok. It will be open to the public soon enough and you won’t have to pay a dime. Their financial model moving forward sounds good (a subscription fee for super extra features), but even an Ao3 model would work swell for them probably.

We’re living in an interesting time on the internet. Governments across the world are cracking down on content and yet community run websites are starting to thrive more and more.

Tumblr once upon a time was what Pillowfort is today, but this time, let’s make sure Pillowfort can stay independent from mega corporations.

yes this

most of the criticism i’ve seen of pf so far ultimately come back to this

is it an alright platform with a good community? yes. does it have a lot of potential? yes. does it have a lot of problems still being worked out? yes.  are the staff open and responsive? absolutely. do i recommend it? yes, if you’re willing to live in a house while it’s being built.

but it’s not a ready-made replacement for tumblr.  set your expectations accordingly.

Yes. If you get an invite and move to Pillowfort, then be a good and patient beta user. It takes time to shape the User Experience for a social media platform, and the backend will likely experience some issues with increased use.

That means that you’ll probably want to maintain at least two blogs while PF matures.
