i love that one old timey 1910s trans dude who has a tiny wikipedia page for himself that he earned entirely due to him starting fights in bars and being the city’s hottest casanova
Like this glorious jerk got arrested so many times that was literally ALL THEY HAD TO WRITE IN THE PAPER
He was a vagrant street kid and Seattle girls were all over this guy, to the point where it caused a moral panic. There’s a famous anecdote about a women proclaiming her love in Denny Park and then trying to shoot herself, but most of these reports were falsely worded in a way that suggest his female admirers were “upset about being deceived” when really they were upset that he was wooing other women, or trying to get his attention by being as extra as possible.
What you also should know is that back in the day “seduction” was a literal crime that could put you in prison (unless you married the woman you seduced) but since he wasn’t cis they couldn’t really CHARGE HIM with anything. Legend.
I especially like “Seattle Woman Appears in Men’s Clothes Because She Says Her Features Make it Possible.” I can’t imagine anything but someone going “Hey! You can’t dress like that!” and him responding “Oh yes I can. You see, I look very good.”
I feel like the line between “fluffy uwu self care” and “get your shit together self care” is thinner than people seem to think. Like, sitting in a quiet space with a book and maybe some twinkly fairy lights gives me the spoons to go call my damn doctor like I’ve been meaning to. Bath bombs or shower steamers make me feel content and/or sparkly, which gives me confidence to go out in public. (Plus, I bathed.) I dye my hair funky colors so if I feel like people are staring at me I can say it’s at that instead of whatever my anxiety wants it to be.
The two are not mutually exclusive, is what I’m getting at, and I never see that mentioned, just either “self care is being nice to yourself” or “self care is kicking yourself in the ass to function for a few hours”. Kick yourself in the ass with niceness.
In the heart of the fairy mound, there were two identical
cradles, each with an identical infant inside.
“One of these babies is the one you bore,” said a fairy.
“The other is the changeling we left. You may leave our hall with whichever
child you claim as your own. Choose wisely.”
“But they are both
my children,” the human mother protested indignantly.
The fairies whispered amongst themselves in surprise and
confusion. At last, one asked, “How do you mean?”
“I came to get back the child you stole from me, the one who
is mine by blood. I never agreed to give my adopted child back to you.”
Perhaps her words touched the fairies’ hearts; or perhaps
her stubbornness impressed them; or perhaps they simply found the argument
amusing, novel enough to merit a reward.
She left the fairy mound, an infant in each arm, and brought
them home.
I don’t know if this is weird or not, but I totes read Mulan as a trans woman! I tend to read all “women who pretend to be men” stories as very similar to my experience. In contrast, I’ve never imagined that a character presented to the audience as male was actually a trans woman.
This man hates exploiting people so much that he continues to do it even though it breaks his heart. Reblog if you cried 🤧
yeah Adam Ruins Everything did a great episode that included why the majority of unpaid internships are actually illegal, so fuck this guy (who apparently is also a rapist??) it boils down to if an unpaid internship doesnt meet any of the below criteria, its illegal:
so if youre interning for a publisher and theyre having you fetch coffee and answer phones? ILLEGAL. youre not being taught anything having to do w the industry youre supposed to be studying and youre taking the place of a PAID secretary. and the idea that doing internships at all makes you more able to get jobs is bullshit:
so really truly, fuck anyone who claims unpaid internships are a necessary “audition” on the way to success, classifying an unpaid internship as an “audition” or “tryout” is LITERALLY on the list of things that makes an unpaid internship ILLEGAL (source for more info)
