“I also think it’s weird in movies, when someone has amnesia, and they wake up in the hospital, a lot of times surrounded by friends and family, but when they open their eyes they go ‘WHO ARE YOU?!’ because that’s not how you act when you don’t recognize somebody. That’s very rude. It would be chaos out there if every time you saw someone you didn’t recognize you went ‘WHO ARE YOU?!’. I always try to be really polite in life, so if I had amnesia, you’d never know it! I’d wake up and they’d be like ‘Hi John, we’re so happy you’re awake’ and I’d just be like, ‘Oh, hey man… How’s it going? Oh hey dude, nice to see you again’ because that’s how you act when you can tell that someone recognizes you and you have no fucking clue who they are.”
— John Mulaney
Excellent point.
John Mulaney woke up with amnesia once and never told anyone because he was too worried about being rude

Don’t assume malice. Assume ignorance. Life is easier, the world is kinder, and you can educate. Actual malice is pretty rare, I find.
Always remember Hanlon’s Razor–”Never assume malice when incompetence will suffice as an explanation.”
That’s said, never forget Fred Clark’s Law, either: “Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice.” There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice–at which there is simply no way to become that ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.
#Deep Throat’s Law:#“the truth is these are not very bright guys and things got out of hand.”
Are cats even real?
short answer? no
“His age was undetermined, but in terms of cynicism and general world weariness, which is a sort of carbon dating of the personality, he was about seven thousand years old.”

I wonder who builds these
Seriously? They are Fire watch towers and the Forestry service builds them.
if it has a decent satellite internet hookup, I would be so willing to man/live in one of these. Fuck civilization, I’ll be a forestry hermit.
Many of them, and the roads to get to them, were built during the depression by the CCC! It was a BIG part of the new deal, and it put young people with no or little training to work on conservation and natural resources projects – they planted trees, built national parks buildings, and fire lookout towers!
My great grandfather came out to Oregon from Nebraska with a CCC job. He didn’t do the towers, but he did do the roads that got people there, and at 91 he could still show you on a map which he’d worked on. 😀
Addendum: I love how the various notes saying things like “lovely – away from the insanity” are rather ignoring that firewatch towers tend to be in places that are sometimes on fire, and in fact, many of them are on fire right now.
That’s not a proper firewatch tower, but a house built to emulate
one. That’s still pretty cool, of course! There’s a video showcasing the house on YT with a
neat little interview
with the ownersabout the house itself and firewatch towers more in general:

you want my hot take for the evening? people who dont like complainers just havent been exposed to good complaining, and will never know if they themselves have an inborn talent for the art of kvetching
good complaining is some combination of a) funny, b) animated and theatrical, c) insightful re: human foibles, d) inquiry into social trends and norms.it must ALWAYS involve at least a small degree of self awareness, and is often used to build camaraderie and maintain relationships.
