JAPANESE SILK TAFFETA DRESSING GOWN, 1880s

Vertically quilted blue silk with turn down collar, long sleeves and two patch pockets at the hip, slightly trained at back, closing down center with silk corded frogs, elaborately embroidered down the center and bottom hem with flowers in blue and white, pockets embroidered with bird in flight, lined in blue silk. Japanese for the Western market.
