The kea is the only alpine parrot on the planet, and is one of ten parrot species endemic to New Zealand. It belongs to the same family as the precious moss potato, the kakapo, and the colourful kaka. Its clownish nature is so well-known that a group of kea is called a circus!
Kea are also incredibly smart, about as smart as a 4 year old human. This also makes them incredibly curious, a word here which means destructive. There are innumerable cases of Kea destroying cars and stealing things from people just because they can. They will tear things to shreds with their beaks and it is your own fault if you leave them to it.
I love them and, like most of New Zealand’s native wildlife, they are endangered.
They are perfect and I love them.
