Magical encounter while free falling.

Can you imagine being that bird? You see a big falling dot off in the distance, so you go to investigate. And it’s a human. Just, like, hanging out, in the middle of the sky. Plumbing toward earth at terminal velocity.

“Huh, that’s weird” you think to yourself.

You land on them. They seem nonplussed by their predicament.

But you’re a busy bird, you’ve got places to be. So you just fly off. Good luck, crazy human. Hope you make it.

This is actually parahawking! Combining parasailing and falconry, these birds are trained to stick with their handlers during flight. You can see the jesses on this vulture’s feet, and the cameraperson is not in freefall, but is clearly got their chute deployed. The bird in question is a young Egyptian vulture I think, by the head shape and colour.

There’s no way a bird would be able to approach and land on someone in freefall, it would have to be diving in a stoop to catch up to them. If you do actually want to see a falcon and a human skydiving together, check out Frightful and her handlers:

@elodieunderglass Hey Elodie – someone else commented on the parahawking thing too, w/ a video if you’re interested?
