Don’t trust anyone who tries to tell you that queerness is defined by degrees of oppression. It is not. It has never been.

Being queer has unfortunately gone hand in hand with marginalization both historically and in modern times, but the queer experience is not defined by marginalization. Furthermore, queer marginalization is not experienced in the same way universally by all people who identify as queer, and the vast majority of queer people benefit from at least one kind of intersectional privilege.

Anyone who tries to claim otherwise is selling something nasty and doesn’t deserve your time or attention.
